Streetworks Training and Courses

The New Roads and Street Works Act of 1991, also known as Streetworks, is designed to ensure that companies are trained to conduct work in relation to highways and follow regulations. It assists companies and local authorities to work closely together improving road safety and reducing potential disruption to road users. We offer a variety of streetworks courses and training covering highways, utilities, general construction, health and safety, consultancy and management.

This streetworks training course is aimed at those working in construction. Qualifications available include Level 2 diploma in plant operations attachments, plant operator training, Level 2 and 3 diploma in fencing, level 2 diploma in plant operations / general construction operations and level 3 diploma in construction site supervision.

Utilities course information

In utilities courses the sylabus will have training for NRSWA operative's and NRSWA supervisors as well as training in signing, lighting and guarding.

Health and Safety

Streetworks courses related to health and safety cover a range of subjects, such as accidents and first aid, the supervisor's role, safe systems of work, principles of prevention, performance measurement, fire prevention and control, hazardous substances, construction design and management regulations, personal protective equipment, behaviour and intervention skills, manual handling, health and safety law and enforcement, risk assessment and method statements, health and safety management, permit systems, occupational health, presentation of toolbox talks, and working at height.

To attain relevant qualifications, candidates for any type of streetworks training course will need to pass a combination of written exams and live assessment.

Prior to booking on to any streetworks course have a chat with your local training provider to check that you are selecting the correct training modules to suit your professional role. Local councils and highways contractors will often only sub-contract work to individuals who are registered with the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR) and that hold City and Guild certification so it is essential to ensure that you attain the correct qualification for the job that you intend to do. Prior checks before you commit time and money for any training courses is vital as your staff will benefit more and the entire company will in the long run.

The New Roads and Street Works Act of 1991 is significant because it ensures that companies are correctly carrying out jobs and following the regulations in relation to roads and highways.
